Adaptive Reuse Condo Project

Green buildings are only part of the larger sustainable development movement. The contributory role of historic buildings cannot be overestimated. The “greenest building” is one that isn’t razed and taken to the land fill. The original one-story Woolworths store was gutted and new buildings were constructed on top it, and over the remaining half of the site, to cover a third of a city block. The bottom two floors contain retail and office space, the basement is a restaurant and performance space, and the upper 3 floors contain 27 residential units, all with their own flagstone terraces and unique designs. The design intent was to break up the facade so it looked as though several buildings existed, but then have a shared base along the front and side. The exterior details are modern but the building materials and proportions reflect the historic district setting
