This new 4,500 square foot home and detached garage is built in a clearing above the Hardware River. All living spaces are located on the upper floor, to take advantage of views through screened porches down to the floodplain. The interior features high ceilings with clearstory windows that bring natural light deep inside. The high volumes and windows in the center tower were designed to provide passive, convection based ventilation. Outside walls are 2x6 construction and the house is highly insulated. The exterior reflects the eclectic tastes of the owner’s background in India, along with original inspirations from a tropical home.
