A New Farmhouse

Wrap-around porches, traditional elements, and the appearance of having grown over time recall an old farmhouse. But unlike in an old house, the inside is open and light, with interconnected, multi-use spaces that step down with the hillside. Sustainable design and construction strategies included thick walls, sprayed insulation, high efficiency heating, a reflective metal roof, wood flooring from local sustainable harvests, and cement fiberboard siding. Construction waste materials were minimized, separated and recycled. The last of the built-in cabinetry just went in, the first trees have been planted and soon few will know this farmstead wasn’t always part of the landscape.
