This charming cottage set under mature oak trees and surrounded by lush English gardens needed to be brought up to date.  The owners wanted more space, changes to meet modern lifestyles, and a better connection to outdoors.  Insulation now well exceeds modern standards, HVAC equipment and appliances are energy efficient and the new design provides passive solar gain at the south facing wall.  Natural materials were used throughout often with a Southwestern theme. The renovation enlarged the kitchen and dining area, and added a second floor master bedroom suite. The addition has extensive glazing so all rooms feel bright and warm. It feels like being in a tree house when looking out the windows.
