A Net-Zero Farmhouse

This building is designed to require no outside power for heating or cooling by running on an east-west axis, having opening sizes limited on north and shaded on south, and creating a highly insulated and airtight envelope.  A geothermal heat pump is provided but is never used.  Photovoltaic panels provide all needed electricity.  Generous south facing glass the opens the house up to long views and brings in warm sun in the winter. This is a modern interpretation of the traditional farmhouse with multiple intersecting rooflines, natural materials, light open interior spaces and deep porches.
